Cape Lookout Camping Trip

Wow.

I don’t know how else to start. This trip was just amazing.

When I moved down to New Bern, North Carolina with Kelsey we didn’t know anyone. One of the first friends I made down here was Gary, he worked at Stand Up Outfitters which is the local paddle board shop, and the best in the business I've come to learn. Eventually we started surfing and adventuring together.

He hit me up the other day about going camping for a weekend at the cape which I’ve wanted to do since the first time I went over there and he was going with 4 of his friends that he grew up with down here. So naturally I said absolutely I want to go and I requested off work and we started planning the logistics of it.

I have a Jeep so we decided that we definitely wanted to take it over on the ferry, so we packed it full of the bulky stuff that everyone wanted to bring. 3 of the guys paddled over to the cape in their kayaks and Gary, Mike and I took the Davis Shore Ferry out of Davis, NC.

When we first got there the winds were howling, and I mean sand blasting your skin type of howling, which we knew we were gonna be dealing with on the first night. So we signed in at the welcome cabin where you read over the rules and sign so you can get your beach pass to stick on your windshield. Then we started to head down the cape to find the guys and figure out our campsite for the night. Once we found them we decided that we couldn’t set up camp on the beach, it just was not feasible. So we tiptoed on an ethical line when being at the beach which is do not go into the dunes and upset any vegetation. We all know and respect these rules and understand why they exist. On this day though we found a spot that was flat and didn’t have any vegetation really, a ranger had came by and seemed not to mind because of the weather conditions so we decided to set up camp there for the night. We all stayed there the first 2 nights, Gary and I were staying for 3 nights total and the other guys were staying for 2. The third night Gary and I made our way out to the beach and set up camp there.

All in all the trip was phenomenal, we surfed, fished, explored, and just hung out. I met an awesome group of guys and definitely made some new friends. I can confidently say that this weekend was one I will never forget.

A lot of these photos are just snapshots, they wouldn’t win any awards but I just wanted to capture some photos to remember the weekend. The video was my main focus. Enjoy.
